Is Serverless architecture a passing trend?

It’s fascinating to watch the ebbs and flows of technology trends. From the rise of monoliths to microservices, and now to serverless, each paradigm presents unique advantages and challenges. A few short months ago it would have been heretical to speculate on the long-term future of the serverless model, and yet here we are. None other than Amazon, possibly the biggest beneficiary of serverless architecture have saved themself a ton of money by consolidating to a monolith. Since their main cost was another part of the same company Iā€™m not sure exactly what the net gain is, but never mind. It caused many bloggers to start to speculate “is serverless dead?”

As we stand in 2023, it makes one wonder: Is serverless architecture just another fleeting trend, or is it here to cement its place in the tech landscape?

While all technologies inevitably see peaks and troughs in their popularity, there’s much to suggest that serverless has more than a few years in its stride. The benefits of reduced operational overhead, scalability, and cost efficiency remain hard to ignore.

What’s your take?
